Greta Thunberg is a youth climate activist known for her bold actions and speeches. Her line of work is to aware global citizens about the climate change and constantly urge people specially those on power to take immediate actions for the climate change concerns. Her major work is based upon scientific data with a fixed objective of mitigating climate change concerns. It does not consider the current need of people and personal, social development.
Her interest and concerns have led her family members to adopt environment friendly lifestyle along with some major changes like her mother giving up her career as opera singer by deciding not to fly. In an interview when asked about her mother ending her career for the cause of climate change, she said that she only enlightened her mother about the impact climate change has and it was solely her mother’s decision. Her educational perspective is highly aligned with the ideas of idealism where she set good example by conveying the key concepts and principles from the classics, patiently guiding her parents to search for truth, and skillfully promoting thinking (Critical Perspectives on Education, 2006).
She had suffered from depression due to climate change issues at the age of 8 and has been active in this area since then. She is suffering from Asperger syndrome which causes individuals to have rigid and repetitive behavior and thinking pattern. She strictly believes that there is no alternative that can possibly delay the urgent need of mitigating climate pollution actions. She has been challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation climate change via strikes. This somehow aligns with realism where she believes that the people on power need to act on climate change despite of their understanding.
In order to aware and educate people around the globe about climate change and what is actually at stake, she has also published a book. The Climate Book is a collective non-fiction book directed by the climate activist Greta Thunberg (Wikipedia contributors, 2023). A collection of bite-size essays, The Climate Book provides an encyclopedic overview of all aspects of the climate crisis, including the basic science, the history of denialism and inaction, and what to do next (Wayman, 2023). Her educational philosophy is mostly towards idealism since she believes in bringing out the truth for everyone to see, understand and work upon.
